Nor the intense passage near the end of the 3rd movement in Janáček’s "Intimate Letters" string quartet... I falsely remember it being used for a sex scene in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being". (This memory is only partly false, because that music was used in the movie, just not for a sex scene... even if it should have been.)

Nor the climactic crescendo of Beethoven’s Heiliger Dankgesang (opus 132).

Nor – obviously – the end of the adagietto of Mahler 5.

And don’t get me started on the Liebestod. (Never let anyone tell you that Wagner can’t be sexy.)

When I was and mix tapes were still a thing – yes, I’m gen-X and unashamed – I had the ridiculous idea that I should make a mix tape containing a compilation of all the "orgasmic" moments in classical music that I could think of, just one after another, fading in and out, out of context. I never found the time to do this, which is just as well, because it was a terrible idea, and I half knew that at the time... I knew, at any rate, that taking those moments out of context would nullify their impact, because that’s just not how music works. I’ve since understood that that’s also not how orgasms work. (To be fair, I was still a virgin when I had the idea.)

Anyway... is it too much to hope that an orgasm might someday be as much of an earth-moving experience as the "Seid umschlungen, Millionen" moment in Beethoven 9?

I prefer to be an optimist, in any case.
